SAFE Training and Certification

SAFE conducts the initial 2-day certification training, which is in-depth training on how to use the Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) methodology. Once the Child Welfare Worker has completed the course, they are SAFE Certified and can conduct the SAFE home study process.

SAFE conducts a half-day SAFE supervisor training, which is designed to train Supervisors in the proper supervision of SAFE which is required when performing a SAFE home study. Attendees must have attended and completed the SAFE 2-Day Training in order to register and attend the SAFE Supervisor Training.

SAFE conducts a full day SAFE refresher training, which covers the entire SAFE methodology and the SAFE tools, any updates to SAFE, and provides a forum for participants to ask questions. Attendees must have attended and completed the SAFE 2-Day Training in order to register and attend the SAFE Refresher Training.

SAFE conducts a half-day SAFE interview training, which focuses on the most effective ways to gather information during the home study interview process that will be included in the home study report. Attendees must have attended and completed the SAFE 2-Day Training in order to register and attend the SAFE Interview Training.

SAFE conducts a one-hour SAFE booster webinar, which is an overview of the SAFE home study process. Attendees must have attended and completed the SAFE 2-Day Training in order to register and attend the SAFE Booster Webinar.

The initial 2-day certification training is $410 USD per person. The SAFE Supervisor training is $225 USD per person. The SAFE Refresher course is $225 USD per person. The SAFE Interview Training is $215 USD per person.

SAFE does not have any educational requirements to attend the trainings. However, to attend the SAFE Supervisor training, the SAFE Interview training, and SAFE Refresher training, you first need to complete the initial 2-day SAFE certification training.

No, you do not need to be affiliated with an agency to register and attend the SAFE trainings.

Yes! You can attend any training in any time zone.

Yes, you can use and conduct SAFE home studies in any state, province, or agency that utilizes SAFE for home study assessments. However, states, agencies, and provinces could have additional internal rules, regulations, and guidelines regarding the ability to conduct home studies in that respective state/province.

Yes, to register and attend the SAFE Supervisor training, you must first complete the initial 2-day SAFE certification training.

No, completing a SAFE home study requires a partnership of a SAFE Certified Home Study Practitioner and SAFE Certified Supervisor.

To access the SAFE tools and reports click on "Download Reports and Resources" on the main page. You will be prompted to insert your email address you used to register for the SAFE training. Once verified, a link will be sent to you which directs you to the SAFE Resource Center where you can download SAFE forms, reports, and support tools.

Once SAFE certified, users have access to the SAFE Resource Center which hosts a variety of support tools and articles. SAFE Specialists are also available for consultation to provide support regarding the SAFE methodology. SAFE Specialists can also review home studies on a case-by-case basis to ensure adherence to the model. In addition, SAFE staff is available for technical assistance as well.

No, the SAFE home study program does not conduct home studies or provide supervision. SAFE conducts the certification trainings and provides consultation specific to adherence to the model.

Yes, SAFE can be used for Relative/Kinship homes.

The time to complete a SAFE home study is impacted by numerous factors - the availability of the applicant(s), complexities of the family dynamics, the number of family members and other individuals that need to be interviewed, etc. It also can be impacted by the Home Study Practitioner's case load and availability. Due to the variety of factors that can impact the time it takes to complete a SAFE home study, there is no definitive timeline of completion.

No, Consortium for Children and the SAFE program conducts the SAFE trainings. We do offer numerous opportunities to attend the SAFE virtual trainings in all US/Canadian time zones.
